Karako received his Ph.D. in Politics and Policy from Claremont Graduate University. He has previously taught national security policy, American government, and constitutional law at Claremont McKenna College and California State University, San Bernardino.
During his time as Director of Programs with the Claremont Institute (2003-2009), he directed the Publius and Lincoln fellowship programs, created and edited Missilethreat.com, and directed the Golden State Center.
Karako has published on defense policy, state politics, and executive-congressional relations in journals and newspapers, including the Los Angeles Times, Investor's Business Daily, the Journal of International Security Policy, the Claremont Review of Books, and Defense News.
