The Los Angeles Scenario

The Los Angeles basin, with a population 13 million people, the largest concentrated population on the West Coast of the United States.

Los Angeles is within range of the Chinese CSS-4, the North Korean Taepo Dong II missile, and a wide array of Russian ICBMs.

An attack on Los Angeles by a single warhead CSS-4 would result, depending on where it struck, in the immediate death of roughly 1.5 to 3 million Americans. Exposure to radiation would result in the deaths of an untold number in the weeks and months following the blast. A multiple warhead missile could kill millions more Americans.

The primary purpose of an attack on Los Angeles would be to kill large numbers of Americans, to demoralize the people of the United States, and to force the civil authorities to cope with large numbers of injuries following the blast, and the massive destruction of the physical infrastructure of a highly populated area.
