U.S. Will Pay for Israel's Arrow 3

July 27, 2010 :: Jerusalem Post :: News

On Sunday, Israeli Brigadier General Ofir Shoham and U.S. MDA director Lieutenant General Patrick O'Reilly signed an agreement that the U.S. will fund Israel's Arrow 3 missile defense program. The likely price tag will be somewhere near $100 million.

Scheduled to go online in 2012-13, the Arrow 3 will defend against longer range missiles than the current Arrow 2 system, and will augment plans for another longer-range Israeli missile defense system, David's Sling. Given current deployment schedules, David's Sling will likely not come online until after Arrow 3. Iron Dome, the short-range missile defense system meant to defend against smaller, cheaper rockets launched from Gaza or southern Lebanon, is slated for installment starting in November. (Article)
