Longer Range Rockets Threaten Israel from Gaza

November 3, 2009 :: AP :: News

 Iranian rockets now based in Gaza have a range of 60km, up from a previous high of 40km. Major General Amos Yadlin has informed the Israeli parliament that a longer-range Iranian missile was recently tested in Gaza. The increased range would put Tel Aviv within striking distance from the Gaza Strip.

While no technical evidence has yet been released, Israeli missile experts say that certain characteristics on the missile—such as components, paint, and lettering—offer evidence of Iranian origin.

The Israeli military reports that missile proliferation in Gaza is back at full strength, despite Israel's war last year to stem missile attacks from Gaza. Attack are down dramatically, but missiles continue to flow to Gaza from Egypt through underground tunnels.

Terrorist organizations based in the Gaza Strip, like Hezbollah, may be getting such missiles from ships like the one seized today by IDF Navy Seals 100 miles west of Israel(Article)
