Russia Test-Launches Two ICBMs

July 22, 2009 :: RIA-Novosti :: News

The Russian press is reporting the successful test-launch of two "Sineva" (SS-N-23) class submarine-based ICBMs on July 13 and 14. RIA-Novosti cited an anonymous defense "source" as confirmation of the missile type. Russian President Dimitry Medvedev has merely confirmed that the test was a "success," without confirming what type of missile was used.

The normal platform for the SS-N-23 is the Delta IV class nuclear submarine. The missiles were reported to have been launched successfully and hit their respective targets on the Kamchatka Peninsula and in the White Sea. (Article)
