In June, 1981, Israeli jets crossed into Iraq airspace and destroyed the Osirak nuclear reactor, before it could come online. Iran has since replaced Iraq as Israel’s chief threat, and has nearly completed work on its own nuclear reactor, with significant help from Russia.
