Land-Based Test of Aegis SM-3 Interceptors

The Missile Defense Agency yesterday announced a recent successful test of the maneuvering system for the Standard Missile 3 which will be used to intercept missiles as part of the Aegis sea-based defenses. The test of the actual kinetic warhead which would intercept an enemy missile was completed on November 30, 2004. The test is described by the MDA and by Lockheed Martin as an important milestone in the interceptor’s development. (Article)
