Hungary Said to Decline Basing BMD Radars

July 11, 2006 :: News

Hungary has removed itself as a potential site for a proposed U.S. missile defense base, reports the Hungarian News Agency (MTI). The report cites defense minister Ferenc Juhasz, who told MTI on Monday that even though exploratory talks had taken place on deploying U.S. radars in Hungary, the plan has been shelved. In addition to Hungary, the Pentagon is also looking at Poland and the Czech Republic as potential sites for a U.S. missile defense base in Europe, which would protect against threats emanating from the Middle East.
